Pioneering a Greater Future

Hijaz Teaching System

Classes

Our secular curriculum is based on the National Curriculum Key Stages 3 and 4. The maximum class size in Key Stages 3 and 4 is 20. At A' Level it is rare for a class to exceed 12 students.

Tutorials

Each student is allocated to a personal tutor, who follows closely his academic progress and personal development

The role of Tutor is to help and support with all students with their studies; provide pastoral care, which means to assist the students in overcoming personal problems; and also to monitor their attendance and progress.

Supervised Private Study

From the hours of 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm all junior students are required to undertake a period of private study, supervised by a member of staff. This ensure completion of all homework and preparation of all necessary work for the coming lectures.

Hijazi Productions

Teaching is also supported by the Hijaz Studio located on site. This is an audio visual studio that is being used to produce supportive material to assist the learning process. Combined with educational DVD's, through seeing and hearing, subjects are made more easier and interesting especially in the tuition of History, Modern Arabic, Urdu, English and Law. Hijaz is currently preparing a range of lectures and documentaries available for inspiring the students.

Personal Tuition

Lectures are available for students during the weekdays and those resident in the campus can make themselves available to any student by appointment at weekends. This allows additional attention to particular difficulties that can not be resolved by the students in tutorials.

Written Assessments

All students are required to submit regular assessments. This is considered essential to demonstrate a full understanding of a topic and provides excellent practice in examination techniques. All submitted work is marked to examination standard allowing constant monitoring of the student's progress.

Reports and End of Term Exams

All students are required to sit end of term exams, culminating in an end of year exams. Hijaz produces 3 reports per year indicating performance in every subject (achievement, attendance and effort), including attendances at prayer, morning registration and evening behaviour.

3 Weekly Assessments

All students are assessed on a 3-weekly basis with respect to their attendance, achievement, effort and organisational skills. Those students not performing up to the required standard are closely checked and scrutinised in order to fill any gaps in their understanding or technique essential for their learning process. Support lessons are available if required although Hijaz may charge for this facility.

Policies and Procedures

New staff and students undergo an induction process which helps them understand how Hijaz works, its rules and policies and procedures. Students are given a student handbook which simply clarifies all of this. Friendly Tutors are on hand to answer any further queries. Staff also have access to the Staff Management Manual which details all the policies and procedures, together this helps student lives run more smoothly at Hijaz.
