Modern World History
KS3- Students in years 7-8 study medieval English and Islamic history including the study of the birth of Islam, the Crusades, Medieval life in Britain and the Islamic world.
GCSE- Students in years 9-11 study Indian Independence, Arab-Israeli Conflict, The Suez War, End of Apartheid in South Africa, The Great Depression and the New Deal and the USA 1941-80.
Religious Studies
KS3- Students explore moral and spiritual issues and important religious concepts in the world’s major religions.
GCSE- Students study how the practice of Islam fits together with life in modern Britain and stands up to the rigours of ethical and philosophical inquiry as well as studying the beliefs and practices of other major world religions such as Christianity and Sikhism.
AS/A-Level- Students study secular and religious ethical theories and apply them to discussions of abortion, genetic engineering, euthanasia and war and peace. Students also study the critiques of Islamic fields of knowledge by Orientalists and their refutations by Islamic scholars.
