Department of History
Islamic History
The student starts with the basic information of historical facts as part of the Ilm-e-Deen course. This includes an introduction to the rules of the four Khalifa's of Islam. This is then expanded into a detailed study at the GCSE level. At the Advanced level there is a detailed analysis of the early expansion of Islam and its effects, including Umayyad and Abbasid rule; the divergence of Islamic thought between the Sunni and Shi'a and its historical background and consequences.
Seerah
Similarly the student is given the basic qualities of Seerah of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Sallalahu Alaihi Wasalam) as part of the Certificate and Diploma level of Ilme Deen degree. There is then a continuation of this examination of GCSE, A' Level in Islamic studies. It is expected that by the time the student reaches the Under-graduate level in Ilme Deen degree or as part of the B.A in Islamic Studies, they can then develop a level of appreciation of Islamic Studies. This has a practical meaning and relevance not only as an example to modern society but to the role of the individual within the context of society which is now empty from morality and spirituality.
Modern History
GCSE/ A' Levels
This covers the area of modern history including the second world war. The student is taught both perspectives, from the point of view of the contemporary secular history and also a contemporary Muslim historical point of view. The issues that are covered in modern history set a very interesting background to the B.A in Islamic Studies level and by then students are trained to be able to distinguish historical strengths and weaknesses of past civilisations adopt them to understanding the sociology of the mental condition of modern society and Muslim Ummah.
